The objective of this peer learning event is to discuss good practices and issues of education and lifelong learning at regional level – both in practice, policy making and data collection. We will discuss the main indicators and goals through which social progress and state of education can be measured and collect other aspects in this area that could be considered worthy of including in the EU-SPI.

Experts from Hungary and the international organisation EURYDICE will share their thoughts, the regions will have the opportunity to share and discuss good practices and as an outcome concrete suggestions for the EU-SPI in relation to indicators covering the field of education and lifelong learning will be developed.

The third virtual peer learning event focusing on "Defining, Measuring and Improving Well-being for the European regions" took place on the 19th of December at 10:00 PM. The workshop was organised in the frame of the series of peer learning events as part of the activities of the EU SPI Pilot project, and aimed to allow remote participation for as many of the core members and associated regions of the project.

During the session the main presentation focused on

· the meaning of well-being

· GDP standard measure and its limitations

· many new approaches and no consensus

· measuring well-being and the inequality issue

The second EUSPI Peer Learning event, focusing on "The comparability issue on indexes: The specific case of the EU-SPI" took place in Brussels on the 11th of October 2019.

The workshop discussed issues of comparability and types of peer groups aiming to:

  • introduce the key concepts and issues that define the challenge of comparability between peer groups
  • highlight ideas from case studies of different project partners, which can serve as inspiration for more detailed discussion and experience sharing
  • suggest some key question to focus peer discussion.

The overall aim of the workshop is to generate new knowledge through the application of indicator frameworks, which are measuring human well-being and social progress at the international, European and regional level. Different stakeholders (policy makers, researchers, etc.) of and beyond the “EU-SPI Project – Pilot Project on the Social Progress Index” will share the experiences they have made during the testing of the "EU Social Progress Indicator" and other indicators (e.g. the Regional Well Being Index of the OECD) in different European cities and regions.
